Submissions window: We are still open for emailed submissions until March 15th. Any submissions received after that will be returned unread.

OxMag: accepts fiction, poetry, new media, and creative nonfiction/essays! Appearing biannually, OxMag is a web-based journal that acquires first North American serial rights, one-time anthology rights, and online serial rights. Previously published work is not accepted

We’re looking for writing and art that makes us laugh, cry, contemplate. Stuff that is honest and playful. Bombastic and reserved. Tangible and incandescent. We especially love to hear from historically underrepresented voices.

Cover letters: Make sure to write a brief bio in the space marked by Submittable as “Cover Letter.” Do not include any additional info on the submission itself.

Submissions: We accept submissions here as well as through email.

Please send the files as Word documents (.doc or .docx), Rich Text Files (.rtf), or PDFs for text submissions.

If submitting via email, here are (brief) guidelines for your genre:
Poetry: 5 poems at a time (no more than 10 pages please)
Fiction: Less than 5000 words
Nonfiction: Same as fiction
Art + New Media: 3 works of art

The subject heading for your email MUST INCLUDE the genre of your submission (poetry, fiction, nonfiction, art) and your full name. Include in the body your cover letter. Send to

New media work can be sent in various formats, but questions should be directed to the Media Editor at

One submission at at time: Please only send one submission per reading period.

Response time, &c: We’re re-calibrating our reading process, so response time varies depending on genre. We will make every effort to accept or decline fiction and nonfiction submissions within three to six months. It could take longer, but hopefully not. For poetry, it may be as short as a week, but generally no longer than two months. As an any-genre rule of thumb, if we haven’t gotten back to you within three months, send a message to us at

Simultaneous submissions: are okay as long as you remember to withdraw your submission via Submittable soon after you find out.submit
