The Institute for Food empowers Miami University community to imagine, engage, and enact a sustainable, equitable, healthy food future. The Institute seeks to offer a national model for interdisciplinary food-centered education, emphasizing integrative approaches to sustainable agriculture and food systems. To this end, the Institute for Food is working to:
- Develop a co-major in Food Studies and Food Systems, including courses on food issues from a wide range of academic divisions and departments.
- Establish and expand a sustainable farm on the historic Austin-Magie farmland, which serves as a living laboratory for experiential learning, collaborative research, and community engagement.
- Cultivate extensive partnerships with community organizations both in Oxford and the greater Cincinnati area–working to enhance food access and resilience within our region.
