The Institute for Food empowers the Miami University community to imagine, engage, and enact a sustainable, equitable, healthy food future. The Institute seeks to offer a national model for interdisciplinary food-centered education, emphasizing integrative approaches to sustainable agriculture and resilient food systems. To this end, the Institute for Food is working to:

  • Develop a co-major in Food Systems and Food Studies, including courses that address the fundamentals of sustainable agriculture; food, health and nutrition; and food, society and culture.
  • Establish and expand a sustainable farm on the historic Austin-Magie Farm and Mill District, which serves as a living laboratory for experiential learning, collaborative research, and community engagement.
  • Cultivate extensive partnerships with community organizations both in Oxford and the greater Cincinnati area–working to enhance food access and resilience within our region

Fostering healthy food, healthy eating, healthy communities and a healthy planet.
