The YouTube video “No Racial! (the new “No Homo”)” posted in 2009 is a humorous skit in which an Asian American male and an African American male ask each other questions which could unintendedly be considered racist. The phrase “no racial” is a phrase which parallels the phrase “no homo” in the racial domain. “No homo” is a slang phrase often used by males when a guy says something which could come off as homosexual to another guy so by saying “no homo” at the end one articulates that they were talking in a casual and friendly manner and not in a sexual way. Therefore, in the skit, when one of them says something to the other, they assert “no racial” at the end to ensure the other that they were casual and were not trying to bring up any racial or racist affairs.
Exposing Asian American stereotypes, the African American guy asks his Asian American friend if he would like to watch a kung-fu movie marathon, speculates about his penis size, says he looks like an extra in a movie filmed in Asia, and asks if he ate a dog. Asian Americans often generally become victims of these stereotypes that the skit jokes about; particularly, the video makes light of the erroneous presumptions that Asians eat dogs, all look the same, enjoy martial arts, and so on. Also, the video was uploaded by an Asian American who has multiple blog videos on his channel and has over 3 million subscribers.
