Room Selection

This Room Selection information is for current students. If you are an incoming First Year student, your housing assignment will be made by our staff during the late spring and early summer before you arrive on campus. Visit our Accepted Students page to learn more about housing assignments for incoming students.

Rising Second Year Students (Current First Year Students)

All full-time first year students and second year students are required to live on campus through the spring semester of their second academic year of enrollment. For current first year students completing their first year and preparing for their second year at Miami, room selection will occur during spring semester, details below. Rising Third & Fourth Year Students (Current Second Year and Older Students)

Miami University has embarked on a multi-year housing and dining renewal plan. As we move through the plan, which includes complete renovations of our current residence halls, we know that we will go through years when housing capacity on-campus will increase or decrease. These fluctuations in capacity are a result of the particular halls that may be taken offline in a given year for renovation. Next year (2015-16), we are expecting to have a significantly lower capacity available based on halls offline for year-long renovations. Our current projections do indicate that the following year (2016-17) will be a year with an increased capacity.

Given our university requirement to house first and second year students, and the decreased capacity for 2015-16, it is necessary for us to restrict the number of Third and Fourth year students who are able to live on campus next year. The exact number will be dependent upon the size of the incoming class, combined with the return rate of second year students. However, we do know that it will be significantly fewer than the current year we are in. While we do not have enough capacity to provide housing for all Miami students, we use careful predictions and historic data to maximize the number of Third and Fourth year students we can house.

For rising Third and Fourth year students who are interested in requesting to live on campus next year, we have created an online request form. If you are interested in requesting to live on campus next year, please carefully complete this form by January 5 at noon. It is important to know that we will take into consideration not only the order in which requests are received, but must also take into careful consideration special needs such as medical accommodations. We will strive to notify students of whether or not we are able to offer them on-campus housing as quickly as possible, but it will take time as we monitor incoming student enrollment and second year student return rates.

  • Access the Request Form. The form will require you to login using your Miami UniqueID and password. Please remember that we are asking interested students to complete this form by noon on January 5 in order for us to begin reviewing requests as promptly as possible.

Additionally, we would like to share a great online resource available to help in searching for off-campus housing options. Many options can be found at: www.MiamiOffCampus.com.
