Kathleen Knight Abowitz

Welcome to this issue of the EDL newsletter for alumni, students, and friends. Our department had a major review this past year, capping off two years of self-evaluation, strategic planning, and deliberation about our collective future. The Review team evaluated the health of our department, and praised our array of solid programs, devoted faculty, staff, and students, and commitment to social justice. We also, in this process, identified areas of growth and change. Included among these are some selected new areas of undergraduate program growth, as detailed in this newsletter.

Speaking of change, we have welcomed two new assistant professors into EDL in this last year. Durell Callier is finishing his first year teaching courses in critical youth studies and qualitative research. Brittany Aronson has accepted the faculty position vacated by Dr. Richard Quantz who retired a few years ago. Both Durell and Brittany are profiled within this edition.  We are also saying goodbye, at the end of this term, to Judy Rogers, who is retiring. Check out last fall’s newsletter for our tribute to Judy and her tremendous impact on our department and students since 1986.

We love to hear from former students in all our programs.
