Sharp Village Laundry, 1998

The Sharp Village Laundry on East Clifton Avenue encompasees a laundromat/community space that inhabits an abandoned storefront in the Sharp Village housing development. Begun in the Spring Semester of 1998 and completed with a formal dedication in January of 1999, all aspects of this project were handled by Over-the-Rhine DesignBuild students. Documentation and demolition of the existing space, schematic design, the development of construction documents for building permit approval and all aspects of the construction process including faming, drywall installation, painting and finish work were completed by students. A notable feature of this project is the design of the primary lighting element, which utilizes dimensional lumber and other affordable off-the-shelf building materials in a unique, custom-designed sculpture.
