The Over-the-Rhine DesignBuild Studio began this modest interior renovation in the Summer of 2003. Work was completed in December, 2003. The design of this unit was kept flexible to be either straightforwardly residential or to serve as an artist’s live/work space. The most wide-ranging work occurred in the kitchen, where students gutted the room and replaced everything with new cabinets, custom-designed lighting fixtures, and new flooring. The bathroom received new plumbing fixtures, a tile floor, and newly tiles walls. Flooring was either sanded and refinished, or replaced using OSB as a finish material. Throughout the entire unit, students found opportunities for detailed design, including lighting fixtures, free-standing closets, new transom windows, cabinetry, and shelving.
