1300 Vine Street Renovation, 2002

This storefront, located at 1300 Vine Street in Over-the-Rhine, is the home of the Miami University Center for Community Engagement. Begun in the Fall Semester of 2000, this interior renovation took nearly a year-and-a-half to complete, with the Center taking official residence there at the beginning of the 2002 Spring Semester. Since all of the major building systems—electrical, lighting, plumbing, and fire-suppression—were intact, the students of the Over-the-Rhine DesignBuild Studio were responsible for all interior details, materials, and finishes. Design and construction entailed two new accessible bathrooms as well as drywall, trim, flooring, a corrugated steel fascia beneath the storefront windowsills, and the restoration of the exposed, existing brick walls.
