As of December 2018 Miami’s current version of Banner – version 8 – will no longer be supported. To prepare for the changes needed to keep our ERP system strong and effective, a University team was charged with evaluating options. That team decided that moving to Banner 9, rather than selecting a new tool from a different vendor, was the best fit for Miami.
In recognition of the scale and importance of this effort, the project has a budget of $7M and a 2-year plan. Over 30 individuals from offices that use Banner and from IT Services are on teams that are guiding and implementing these changes.
The first phase of this program will build an all-new infrastructure, evaluate and rewrite customizations that support Miami-specific business practices, train people who use Banner, and cut over to the new version. The team is keeping an eye on the future, ensuring that the work we do is compatible with moving Banner to the cloud should Miami decide to do that in the future.
Immediate benefits of the upgraded Banner:
- Banner will be 100% web based
- Banner will work with tablets and smartphones, enabling more student interaction
- Improved accessibility
